Clio CEO & Co-Founder Jack Newton Joins dealcloser Advisory Board
Leading legal tech company founder & author now sits on dealcloser’s Advisory Board

January 14, 2021 (Edmonton, AB)—dealcloser, a transaction management hub for legal professionals that modernizes the deal closing process, announces today that Jack Newton, CEO & Co-founder of legal practice management company Clio, is joining its advisory board.

Established in 2007, Clio was founded by Jack Newton and Rian Gauvreau who felt that the software commonly in use by law firms at the time was too expensive and difficult to use. Similarly, dealcloser was co-founded in 2017 by former corporate lawyer Amir Reshef and software developer Mike O’Connor after Reshef experienced the inefficiencies corporate lawyers face first-hand. The two companies already worked together before Newton joined the Advisory Board, as dealcloser integrates with Clio to give clients a seamless experience between both platforms.

In the 13 years since its inception, Clio has had huge success and is one of the top legal technology companies in the world. Clio now has over 500 employees and puts on an annual legal technology conference, Clio Cloud Conference, that brings thousands of people together from countries around the world. Newton is also recognized as a leading entrepreneur and, among other recognitions and accolades, was recognized as EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017 and as one of Canada’s Most Admired CEOs in 2020.

With Newton joining dealcloser’s Advisory Board, the dealcloser executive team now has access to  guidance and mentorship from the founder of a wildly successful legal technology company. “We are beyond thrilled to have Jack on our Advisory Board,” says Reshef, CEO of dealcloser. “I first saw Jack speak at a local tech community event years ago. It was very inspiring—and it was at that moment I knew I wanted to build a company like Jack’s. Now with him on our Advisory Board, we have the guidance to grow dealcloser to the next level.”

“I’m truly excited to join dealcloser’s Advisory Board,” says Newton. “I believe they are building a solution that will bring the practice of corporate law into the future by dramatically streamlining and simplifying the outdated workflow and process that currently characterize most corporate transactions. This is a space that needs to leave pen, paper, and Excel spreadsheets in the past, and dealcloser is what the future looks like. I look forward to providing guidance and expertise to the company.”

As the CEO and co-founder of Clio, and a pioneer in cloud-based legal technology, Newton has spearheaded efforts to educate the legal community on the security, ethics, and privacy issues surrounding cloud computing, and has become a nationally recognized author and speaker on these topics. He is co-founder and President of the Legal Cloud Computing Association (LCCA), a consortium of leading cloud computing providers with a mandate to help accelerate the adoption of cloud computing in the legal industry, and is the author of The Client-Centered Law Firm, a bestseller that’s helping law firms thrive in today’s experience-driven era.
